WX3K Shacks

Past, Present and Future ?

First "Basement" Shack

My first shack located in the "cool" basement where I spent most of my summer braving the static on 80 and 40 meters. I can remember nights Id take off my headphones because I was actually fatigued from listening to the static crashes for so many hours. Unfortunately, I have no pictures of my shack showing my Drake 2C, 2NT and EICO 722 but I have that equipment to restore and put on the air someday soon. Shown in this really underexposed picture is my Drake R4B, T4XB, Heath HW7, Drake 22 and Heathkit Twoer. I homebrewed an electronic keyer and paddles shown on the next to the AR22 rotor control box.

My HyGain TH3 Jr and 80/40 meter doublet antennas.

Second "Bedroom" Shack

My room shack with Kenwood gear, TS-820S with companion shortwave receiver, D104 microphone, SM220 monitorscope, Johnson matchbox, converted CB rigs for 10 meter SSB and FM, Drake 2meter FM and 440 FM gear. My first 6AQ5 glowbug for 80/40 meters and a homebrew SO-239 RF patch panel.  Antennas are a HYGAIN TH3 JR, 10 meter Ringo, 440, 220 and 2 meter beams on a 40 foot Rohn 25G tower. A ham M rotator. An 80/40 meter doublet up 40 feet.

Apartment "Stealth" Shack

Geared up for HF(160/40/30), I worked 35 sections on 160 meters with 5 watts using the longwire and counterpoise system. It worked extremely well ! A window mounted MFJ tuner loading a 125' longwire with a gutter on the back of the building as a counterpoise. Used a attic mounted discone for VHF bands, 2 meters, 220 & 440
